What is IB?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a global leader in international education—developing inquiring, knowledgeable, confident, and caring young people. Our programmes empower school-aged students to take ownership in their own learning and help them develop future-ready skills to make a difference and thrive in a world that changes fast.
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 3 - 12 nurtures and develops young students as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.
Through its inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, the PYP challenges students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning as they explore local and global issues and opportunities in real-life contexts. Click the link to learn about the IBO Program

Why IB?

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) strives to develop internationally-minded students who demonstrate the attributes of the IB Learner Profile by ensuring that learning is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant. A crucial piece of Shaker Heights Schools PYP learning is the action cycle, which encourages students to take action to make a positive difference in the world around them at school, at home, in the community and beyond. IB Learner Profile
As IB learners, our students are encouraged to develop the ten attributes of an International Baccalaureate Learner: Inquirer, Knowledgeable, Thinker, Communicator, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-taker, Balanced and Reflective.

The rigorous IB Programme gives Shaker students a competitive advantage and world-class education in this increasingly global economy. It also builds on the District’s mission to nurture students who are civic-minded; who are confident, competent communicators, skillful in problem solving and capable of creative thinking; and who are knowledgeable of our global and multicultural society.
International Baccalaureate is highly regarded throughout the U.S. and the world. An International Baccalaureate Diploma enables students to earn college credit or advanced standing at many colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad.
As IB learners, our students continue to study traditional subjects, meeting all state academic content standards. They are also encouraged to develop the ten attributes of an International Baccalaureate Learner: Inquirer, Knowledgeable, Thinker, Communicator, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-taker, Balanced and Reflective.
